Reckless Driving and Speeding ticket for the same violation? What do I do please help!?

I got pulled over for doing 69 in a 30 mph zone. The street should honestly have a speed limit more like 45 cause it is straight and fairly wide. But i was pulled over and on my ticket it got reckless driving AND a speeding citation? Is this normal? But Im not sure what to do about it, I've has my licence for 3 years and never been pulled over once. Should I get a lawyer to possibly get the charges brought down a bit? And even so do you think its likely the judge will show leniency toward me because of my flawless record despite the fact that I was going waaay over the speed limit? Thanks in advance

You go into court for your scheduled appearance and talk to the judge. Ask that she/he remove one of the citations, given your spotless record and the fact that they were for the same violation.
DO NOT tell her that the speed limit should be higher. Whether or not this is true, its inappropriate to bring it up and will not help your case at all; it just makes you look like you don't respect the speed limit.
By the way, in most areas going over double the limit is actually a felony, and is usually cited as "attempted vehicular manslaughter". You got off pretty lucky. If you have to pay both tickets, you should still be grateful.

In that situation it is very normal. You were going over twice the speed limit and if the speed limit was 45 you would still be 24 miles per hour over the limit. No judge is going to cut you any slack for that. Just pay the ticket and stop driving like a maniac.

39 miles over the speed limit is clearly reckless driving in any condition. Your opinion of what the speed limit should be there means less than nothing and if you say that to a judge it will just piss him off and he will point out that you were driving 24 mph faster than even you think the speed limit should be.

A lawyer certainly can't hurt and I'd suggest you make some calls to several and see if they think they can help.

69 in a 30? Your license should be suspended!

Anything over 40mph is considered reckless driving.. so you were speeding and going 40 over the limit.. yep.. sounds about right.

Driving for 3 years? You're still new!

It will cost you more for the lawyer than it will to pay your ticket.

Here is my suggestion:

Ask for other ways to pay for this and removed for your record.

I've seen guys here that pay double the price and the ticket stays on your record for 1 year rather than 5 years.

You are going to need to get 1 of them droped and no tickets for a year to keep your license. Try for the reckless driving droped. Try to cut a back room deal with the States Attorney here. To that droped and your Attorney makes a donation to his political fund for you. Wont be cheap. $7000 up if you wish to keep driving. If your Atornney says he can not do that call another.

You were driving recklessly (more than twice the posted limit) and obviously speeding.

Given the fact that you are not an experienced driver ... you are at the mercy of the court. Some courts have a lot of mercy, others are very strict.

You were so far over the limit I wouldn't expect any mercy from the court. You will probably get full fines and points for the offenses. As for defense strategy ... you need a lawyer to come up with something, from what I read you have no valid defense.
