Red Light Camera - Am I in for a ticket?

Postby colum » Thu Feb 23, 2012 5:36 am

This is my first encounter with a red light camera. I approached a light on the highway which was red while unaware of the camera. I crossed the white line with my front wheels but was still far from the cross traffic and walkway in the intersection. The white line was back quite a bit from the actual intersection and I felt safe where i was.
The light turned green and I immediately took off through he intersection. I saw a bright flash to my right but only once. Does this sound like a violation?

Well if it didn't flash while you were waiting at the light, I don't think you would've got a ticket. You probably witnessed someone else getting a ticket coming from a different direction.

The white line is there TO STOP BEHIND, so go learn how to drive because you should be behind it at EVERY junction, that's what it's there for! Also, stop doing drag-strip starts at lights, because that's how accidents happen - one idiot chances an amber light which turns to red, and some other idiot goes as soon as the lights look like they're changing, usually without checking.

As for the flash being after you pulled off, this is because you aren't far enough forward for your licence plate to be caught when you're only half over the line, so the camera waited until you moved. You will likely get a ticket, but it could just be a stern warning issued to stop rolling over white lines at red lights / junctions.

Wait for it!
When you receive a ticket in the mail, your answer is YES. After 30 days, no ticket in mail. Answer is no. That flash indicates that you have a ticket on it's way to your mail box. FYI; a sensor is enbedded/focused on the white line, as your vehicle rolled over the white line, you tripped the sensor and a delay. When the traffic light changed to green, your rear wheels passed the sensor completing the set program and tripping the camera. So now you know the reason for the white line. Lesson for today, stay off the white line!!
