Renting a property for sale?

i am currently renting a property that's for sale. i 6 weeks left until bub is born, so my partner and i thought it might be better to look for a place that isn't a short term lease now. as i am having a c section moving a month after bub is born will be difficult. anyway my question is

where do we stand as the land lord has not given us the lease agreement form? we have the receipt for bond, and signed the agreement but as stated we need to receive 2 copies of the agreement which we have not and we have not received a receipt from the rental bond authority either (we are in Tasmania by the way). any ideas on what happens here, where do we stand? do we have the right to terminate the agreement due to the landlord not following the laws?

Talk to your landlord.
Simply ask that you have 30 or 60 day notice before you have to move out.

If there is a legal TIME LIMIT on you being given the copies, then the Landlord MAY be 'in breach' = but you will need to show you have made a 'reasonable effort' to obtain the copies (after all, the paperwork COULD have become lost in the post ..)

Even if you have chased for the paperwork, I doubt you have the right to terminate without giving notice ...

Until you have a copy of the lease signed by everyone...you need to assume that there is no lease.

When the property sells...the new landlord could offer you a lease, change any part of it, or ask you to move. Without a lease you have no security.

If you can get a signed lease... then the new owner has to abide by it.

I suspect you aren't going to get a lease. I would tell the landlord you plan to move unless you get a lease. Ask to meet with the landlord to get it all signed and settled.
