Roomate left unnanounced?

Postby cruz50 » Sun Jul 22, 2012 9:20 am

I am in a pickle my roommate left unnanounced packed some of his stuff and left we moved all of the rest of his stuff into the garage because he began to threaten my husband and i with physical harm. He also stated he would be there to pick it up at a certin time and never showed do i legally have a right to change the locks on the garage if he still owes us money for rent? Also landlords told us to change locks whih we did just not on the garage where all of his property is. Any help would be amazing at this point

i think you can legally change the locks. if he were to try to take you to court, you can say that you were simply doing what your landlord asked you to do. it's your landlord's property after all. change the garage locks now! :)

See if you can file a restraining order against him where he cannot come back to that property unless escorted by the landlord or police officials. Whenever someone threaten to do harm to you, this need to be taken to the police department so they can record on file just in case anything should happen. I will also change the locks on the garage, too.
