Senator Diane Feinstein Has Expressed An Interest In Re-instituting The "fairness Doctrine". What Do You Think Of That?

This might have made sense in the 30's... This might have made sense in the early 50?s when there may have been a single radio station in a market. That is no longer the case. Now there is lots of competition and choice in the market. The effort to reinstate the fairness doctrine is simply an effort to stifle the success of conservative talk radio. Liberals have tried to compete and failed. Even many liberals would rather listen to Rush than Dead Air America. Why? Because even though they don?t agree with Rush, he is entertaining. Did you notice that ONLY talk radio is being addressed? Of course, it is the only part of the media that is dominated by conservatives. It is also dominated by conservatives because people are CHOOSING that way. I might be persuaded to support the "fairness doctrine" provided we are allowed to address the "structural imbalance" in network news, news amgazines(Time & Newsweak[sic], and newspaper editorial boards across the US. I?ll toss Fox News into the mix if I can have a go at CNN & MS/LSD. Can?t compete in the national Marketplace of Ideas? No problem, just have the government stifle your competition. And here I thought that liberals were all in favor of "Free Speech." And so can be regulated.  Right wing radio dominates the am radio bands and this wouldn't be so bad if there weren't so many lies coming out of the mouths of the various participants - from Prager to Limbaugh.  It's easy to portray this as an assault on fee speach, but airwave speech is not free - it is regulated.  If the right wings radio commentators can't control themselves(and they obviously can't) then why should they be allowed to continue to lie and distort? Could it be that the current polorized state of politics is the result of 24/7 histrionics from irresponsible hate mongers?  It certainly could be.  And it appears to be getting worse. I'm in favor of a return to the fairness doctrine - I know that's an unpopular view, but if we don't get a grip on this non-stop foaming at the mouth screeching how are we going to enjoy reasonable debate and honest compromise?

Obviously a political move! The liberals already have control of television, this is a move to destroy talk radio.  They especially do NOT want an informed public.  The illegal immigration question has especially stirred this issue as both President Bush and the senate wanted certain things done but the people have been been informed - largely through talk radio and have expressed their opinion strongly against the amnesty that has been planned really by government both Republicans and Democrats against the people of America.   I think it is one of the worst things that can happen in our country.
