Sister in law just asked for 2500 dollars...?

Postby donough » Wed Nov 30, 2011 2:12 am

My brother and sister in law live beyond their means and filing for bankruptcy is like flushing the toilet to them.

they borrow money, promise to pay it back... pay partial...then ask for some back.

They live in a big rental home, with a spare bedroom, big screen tv, and two boys that get new toys regularly.

They just wrote me page long email stating the money or she will lose her job (she is main bread winner) they will lose car and their home if they dont get the money.

They need the money because they are being sued for bad financial decisions (dumping a new car off at the lot and not making payments.)

I personally dont care about their finances and think they do a piss poor job managing money. I have my own expenses to worry about.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is nothing wrong with the answer no. But you need to do just that, tell them no. There is a saying. If you can't afford to give it away, then don't. That can cause fights and problems for yourself depending on someone to give you YOUR money BACK. You don't have to get detailed just tell them you can't afford to do that. Say sorry, and keep it movin.

Tell them exactly what you wrote here.They made their beds not you .For you to keep giving and not getting the well runs dry after a while. Its time for them to do what they must.What does asking you for money have to do with her losing her Job?I also had a realative like yours they spent so much money on things that were not needed new furniture carpets rugs dressy clothes bought the kids whatever they wanted.They got devorced after 20 years of marriage the money they spent they could have had houses.The wife got remarried bought a house she is divorced again, her home in forclosure the husband has his own business now and a condo;

It may be mean, but I wouldn't do it.

They are clearly living beyond their means and will most likely continue to do so as long as family and friends continue to bail them out.

If they were really in need of some quick money, they would sell that big screen television and whatever other expensive nonsense they've wasted their money on. They are adults, let them handle their own issues.

Not a chance!! The rest of us manage to prioritise bills food car etc why should they expect you to bail them out when they got themselves into this situation through nothing but their own stupidity!

dont give her the money, youre enabling her, she needs to live with the consequences of her actions so she can learn not to do stuff like that

If they are in real trouble then u should help 'em. but they are doing this again n again , n they are only using ure money n don't care about u , then its time to think.Discuss with ure wife .If u don't have money then y use big screen or car ? people live on street with family n they can be happy on their own world.So think about ure family first ..atlast its ure decision ...

Ignore the email. While ever other people bail them out, they will never do anything for themselves.

Tell them that you can't afford to give them the money because your finances don't allow for it. Giving them the money will cause problems between you if you expect it back.
