Speeding ticket question?????????????

Postby ailwyn » Thu Dec 15, 2011 9:20 pm

I am wondering what to do with this situation. I just got my first speeding ticket a few days ago and some people are telling me to fight it. I was going 68 miles an hour in a 65 mph zone and the speed limit changes really quickly to 55 mph. When it became 55 I was letting it slow itself down without pushing the brake and passed a police officer who just got done pulling someone else over. I passed him right when he was walking to his bike and just as I got to 55 mph-60mph I see him my rear view mirror and of course his sirens went off. He told me that I was going 68 miles per hour for quite a distance and I find this funny since he pulled me over as I was going 55-60 mph. He gave me a certain distance it took me to slow down and gave me a 85.00 ticket. I am not sure how to fight this? This is my first ticket so I have never had to deal with this. Has anyone been through this situation? I am in Idaho.

Speeding ticket question?????????????

I am also in Idaho, and have fought and won three. Look at the court date on the ticket, and show up. The first time I fought a ticket I just met with one of the prosecutors and explained what happened, and he opted to drop the ticket. The other two I appeared in traffic court on the date of the ticket, explained what happened in one case and it was dropped, and in the third the police officer did not show up so the judge threw it out. It wouldn't hurt to take pictures of where you were in relation to the speed limit change.

Speeding ticket question?????????????

Best question to you is how much are you willing to lose to win? This ticket as other people will post is
an easy ticket to win If you go to court to fight. If your like me and never had a ticket i will lose 200$
a day taking off work for a 85$ ticket and this is what police are betting on you not fighting and just paying. you will win if you go and explain but is it worth putting your job/school at risk is the real
question they want you to ask!

Speeding ticket question?????????????

To be technical, you were speeding in the 55 zone. "Letting it slow itself down" is not obeying the speed limit, and means you were going over the speed limit for quite some time.

You have admitted you were speeding ("...as I was going 55-60"). I fail to see what defense you would have.
