Hi everyone,
I recently got pulled over by a police and got a violation ticket for stop sign violation.
It says voluntary payment is $287, which I'm just gonna pay for.
But it also says I have to attend at provincial court traffic courtroom 001 on november 30th...
Do I need to go to court even if I pay the fine??

You do not have to go to court once you pay the ticket off. the'll notify you with that information at the time of paying the surcharge. But there is a time limit that you'll have to meet in order for you to have that option. Specially if it's done by mail since it takes a little longer. It's so the'll have time to notify you of your current pay and the dismissal. Now if it's getting close to your court date and you have not received a confirmation by the legal office call and don't skip the court day you want to be sure everything went through ok.

Knowing how negligent some courts are, I advise you to show up there with the ticket's proof of payment.

As for the demerit points, that's handled by Alberta's Ministry of Transportation, the cops has no jurisdiction on that area so it's not odd for them not knowing if you'll get a demerit or not because they don't work for that agency and it's not really their job to keep track on how the Ministry of Transportation handle each case.

The best you can do is to ask when paying the ticket, but most likely you'll get a demerit.
