Taking driver lic test - right turn question?

Postby weiford » Wed Aug 01, 2012 7:16 am

I can't seem to find the answer to my Q,

If you are driving in a residential area onto a main street which has TWO lanes going he same direction and you want to take a right turn do you
You stop at te stop line, yield and then turn onto the right one of the two lanes or the left?
There are no light as its a residential area, just a stop sign.

I took my drivers lic test 12 years ago and over seas so I'm not quite sure about THIS particular law. I know when it's a traffic light you're supposed to go only on the right lane when there are two lanes... Well that's the case here in IL (correct me if I'm wrong though ;))

If you are stopping at an intersection in which both lanes that are in the same direction allows you to turn right in both lanes, then do so in any lane. Just be sure to stay in your lane. There should be lane markings if this is possible. If not, stay on the right lane, stop before the white line, then pull forward a little to see traffic, yield, and then turn.
