Teen admitted into the hospital having a catheter put in?

Postby berwin » Tue Mar 27, 2012 7:18 am

Hi am am 13/f and I been having problem peeing and had a spiked fever. I been in the ER for the whole afternoon and now been admitted into the hospital. I've been admitted for a kidney infection and a uti while my patents were leaving to go home because the visiting hours were way over I overheard them talking to my doctor and my doctor said that they will have to measure something that in a few hours they will need to put in a foley catheter in me my parents said that would be fine. I am so scared I really don't like needles and I was crying when they put an Iv in me and blood work. What is this thing they are talking about what does it do and will it hurt. Please help me I am so scared I never been in a hospital before overnight.

A foley cathether isn't a needle. It is a rubber tube inserted into the urinary meatus to measure your urine output. They will be applying a lubricAting jelly on the cathether before inserting into the urinary meatus so it'd go in smoothly. Some patients say it doesn't hurt, you just feel a little pressure as there are different sizes of FC.

a Catheter is a small tube they put into your Urethra (the hole you pee out of) The tube goes all the way into your bladder so your bladder can drain the urine. They do this if you cant pee.. I dont think it will hurt you will most likely just feal a bit of pressure and thats it..

The only thing I would be afraid of is some stranger working down where my privates are.. Other then that dont worry about it.

a catheter is a flexible tube that they put into your bladder to drain out your pee. The tube is attached to a bag that will hang at the end of your bed. I had one put in but I was asleep when they put it in. I don't know if its painful but it wasn't painful when they took it out. The only thing is little bit embarrassing
