The more i know about adoption the less i like?

Postby menw » Thu Jul 19, 2012 5:31 am

the though of two strangers taking my baby just pisses me off. Im 7 weeks pregnant and have to give my baby up for adoption because i dont have a place to live which is why my two other children ages 2 and 1 live with my sister in law. I dont qualify for any type of rental assistance and since we pay child support they take more then half my check so we cant afford a place we actually had a place and then lost it because of the excessive child support (we tried to have it lowered but was raised instead) im having an open adoption but i cant help but not trust any adoptive parents i chose because they can just change their mind and stop contacting me. How do i get past this and be ok with adoption?

Tell the adoption agency you want a open adoption and you want it written into the contract. Then they can not back out of it. A completely open one means you get to see the child while a semi open means letters and pics. Make a list of things you want to ask the parents so you don't forget anything. Once you sit there it can be hard to remember. And they would not go through the very long and expensive process of adopting where you have to turn yourself inside out to answer the questions, unless they really wanted a child. They will love a child no matter where it comes from. Don't doubt that. Go through the profiles carefully. Ask the adoption agency if they have someone you can go and talk to about your worry. It's clear it's coming from the fact that you are forced to give the child up and not something you want. You should also have access to this person afterwards.

Also, your situation can change. You are only 7 weeks gone.

Good luck!

I am not too knowledgeable about adoption, but seems to me if you sign documents for an open adoption that they would have to provide you with pictures and meetings and stuff or else you can take them to court for breech of contract. I may be wrong, but adoption has all sorts of legal things you have to sign. Talk with the agency that you are going through and see what they say. I'm sure they could help you better than anyone on here.
Good luck.
