It nevertheless strikes me as odd that so numerous individuals feel we must be playing whack-a-mole with the illegal immigrants when it is so much less complicated just to enforce existing guidelines prohibiting businesses from hiring the immigrants.or would that be job-stifling regulation?   TheLightWorks 18 months ago

The Supreme Court Just Struck Down Key Sections Of The Arizona Immigration Law What Do The Askville Voters Think ?

The one part of the Arizona law that was upheld was the authority to check immigration status if the person was arrested for any other reason. At least that part held. Yes, one of the FEW responsibilities delegated to the federal government by the Constitution was to protect our borders. But when the federals do not live up to that responsibillity, of course the border states, which are so badly affected by the Mexican problem(primarily) are going to try to uphold the law themselves. It's about time the federal government stepped up to the plate here, instead of meddling in everyone else's affairs around the world. I understand the SC's ruling, but it does leave New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas in a real bind. California, not so much -- they are already bankrupt trying to appease unions and take care of all the illegals.   tuppence 18 months ago

Racial profiling is a valid law enforcement tool. If 90% of a certain crime are perpetrated by a certain 'profile" it only makes intelligent sense to focus 90% of your effort on that seg.ment. There are 11 million illegals in the US, most of them of the "hispanic" persuassion(sp); there are about 50 million hispanics in the US(I d not know if this includes illegals or not). So, between 1 out of 5 or 1 out of 6 is here illegally.   Schelli 18 months ago

I think it is complete BS. If the federal government refuses to do their job and keep illegals out, I think the state owes it to their tax paying legal citizens to be able to create an enforce laws of this nature. We are in enough of an economic downturn without more uneducated, unskilled and unemployable riff raff coming to the country and stealing the services offered to our legal citizenry.   Schelli 18 months ago
