Unsecured Credit Card Debt

Postby yorath » Sat Jun 07, 2014 6:51 pm

A judgment has been brought against me for an unsecured credit card in a district magistrate office. I wanted to know if it goes any further, can they freeze my bank account? I am on SSI and SSD directly deposited. I live in PA. Thanks

ANSWER: Yes, they can freeze your bank account even though they aren't supposed to be able to do so. If they do that you would have to go to court to get it unfrozen and you would be broke until you got the job done. Best you start fighting now before it goes that far.

Unsecured Credit Card Debt

Probably not. I've never heard of a case yet where they notified the people first. They just do it and let you find out the hard way. The only way most people ever find out is when their checks start bouncing and then they are in a big mess. They have to pay the bank a hundred or two for the garnishment order and then they have a bunch of bounced check charges to pay off plus pay off the checks that bounced too. Puts them in a heck of a shape. Best thing to do is to take all the money out of the bank or just close the account completely and don't open up any others they can find. There are several ways to pay your bills. You can use a pre loaded debit card or maybe open a bank account in some other state. Whatever.

You might want to think about seeing if you can vacate the judgment or find a reason to sue them in federal court.
