Unusual collection of symptoms?

Postby veto » Thu Oct 27, 2011 4:01 am

I've had a collection of unusual symptoms for a few years, many of which pertain to sleep. These symptoms have only been issues during the past few years and can come at any time.

MS, Lou Gerick's Disease, Parkinson, strokes run in my family. I had a stroke in childhood.

Used to be an avid caffeine consumer for 2 years. Now I can't touch the stuff without problems.

Symptoms are:

1. Dizzy spells/spells of disorientation lasting anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. Sometimes I need to lean on stuff to be able to work at my job.
2. Dizziness while trying to sleep, feeling like my head needs to roll upwards from the left to the right. Can be very freaky.
3. Numbness in my cheeks and fingers, sometimes twitching left or right eye.
4. Sudden blare of a bright light when eyes closed.
5. Waking up to dizziness and disorientation.
6. Feeling of pressure behind eyes, bordering on headache. Feeling of pressure in left ear, but nothing showing up when looked at by DR.

Caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes, hunger, allergic reaction, lack of sleep tends to exacerbate these issues.

I've mentioned these issues to doctors. Had myself checked out for diabetes/thyroid issues. All the doctors I've seen think nothing of these things or say "that's peculiar" which... well, obviously it is (ergo, I'm a bit frustrated here ^^).

Anybody have an inkling as to what might be happening? I'm planning to document the symptoms and see another DR in the future.

Make an appointment with a neurologist. He or she will do EEG to see if the brain pattern might indicate epilepsy. I have epilepsy and it took years to diagnose (it's now controlled w/meds).

collection of symptoms:

A stroke can become worse despite an early arrival at the hospital and appropriate medical treatment. Progression of symptoms may be due to brain swelling or bleeding into the brain tissue.

It is not unusual for a stroke and a heart attack to occur at the same time or in very close proximity to each other.

During the acute illness, swallowing may be affected. The weakness that affects the arm, leg, and side of the face can also impact the muscles of swallowing. A stroke that causes slurred speech seems to predispose the patient to abnormal swallowing mechanics. Should food and saliva enter the trachea instead of the esophagus when eating or swallowing, pneumonia or a lung infection can occur. Abnormal swallowing can also occur independently of slurred speech.
