Was I in the wrong doing? Punched someone (simple assault class c) not guilty?

I was leaving the school parking lot when my gf's mom called me very distressed asking me to please go see if her daughter is okay, because she was involved in a fender bender, and that the guy wont get out of her face. i pulled a u-turn and i rushed back the the parking lot there were 12 males standing around in a circle, in that circle was my gf and the male that was evolved in the fender bender was in her face screaming, and cussing at her not letting her move or call the police. seeing 12 males standing around i had no clue whats going on, i picked up my bas ball bat and through in the bed of my truck (for my protection) then proceeded to make my way to my gf. i got through the 12 guys just watching the incident there was my gf crying hysterically (my gf never cries) scream and pleading for the male to leave her alone "get out of my face" "get away from me" over and over. i then decided something needed to be done to get out her face i punched the kid ONE time in the face he finally shut up and went to his car and waited for police. I felt threatened for her danger of her life so i took action he wouldnt listen to get away i didnt know what he was going to do next if i let him to continue to get in her face. NO WEAPON WAS USED. I got a ticket for SIMPLE ASSAULT CASS C can i fight this in court for feeling the need to take action for the need to defend her?

I think you can fight it in court you felt threatened for her life and you needed to do something as for the bat as long as you didn't use it your good

Yoou would be guilty, she ma have been in danger but you punched him without you being in any danger, so you can't claim self defense; as for the bat, the police could have given you a worse citation with assault with a deadly weapon, just by having the bat with you.
