My husband pays child support in Washington State for his kids and is very responsable. During the summer of 2005, he switched jobs and reported the change. It took a little time for the change but it went through. The problem, he recently checked his credit report and it says he was in collections for July 2005. It also says Charge-off, 120 days late two months in a row, and monthly obligation $300.00. None of which is accurate. He had a credit repair company handle cleaning up the mistakes(3 lettes sent) but the credit reporting agencies confirmed the bad information. He contacted his case worker who didn't have a clue how the system worked. My husband was told a computer system was reporting the information based on reporting codes. That he was going to have to live with the negative entries because it was to late to change(until 2010). This cannot be accurate under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. We cannot find anyone who can help us clear this up. He has a letter saying he is current, credit report accurate on that poiint, and a statement showing a carry over balance of $134.00 from July into August. Collections isn't reported unless over $1,000.00 from what he found out. We don't know what to do?
