I live in Texas (sarcastic yay). Apparently we have rather stringent traffic laws and fines. Well, ten years ago when I was 16 I drove from Dallas to Austin for a concert. On the way there in some podunk town I got a speeding ticket. At the time I was in high school and couldn't make it to court. I asked if I could send the money but they said that I had to be there. I thought that didn't sound right but I just forgot about and assumed they'd send me a bill or something with a small fine attached. Very naive I know. Well, they wouldn't let me renew my license. And my $60 dollar speeding ticket turned into a $574 fine that I could neither sit out or make payments on. So that's when I started getting tickets for driving without a license. The last one I got was three years ago and since then I've paid every fine and surcharge for all my tickets. But when I went to get my license they said that I had to wait another year even though the last ticket I got was three years ago, which also makes no sense. So I talked to an attorney and he said that it would cost $1,000 to get some sort of partial license. But before I fork out the cash I want to know what my odds are. And what are my chances if I pay the $219 to file myself what's the difference between what I do and what his plans are?
