What are the labor laws concerning salaried employees?

Postby chatima » Sun Feb 26, 2012 10:42 am

Are there any laws that draw out how many hours a week people who are salaried and don't work a 40 hour work week can work? Or do they just have to stay in line with laws regarding break/lunches and can work as many hours as they want per week? I work for a company that doesn't have time cards for salaried management obviously since we don't clock in or out and I was wondering who keeps track of how many hours salaried people work and if they are excessive by any law(s)?

"who keeps track of how many hours salaried people work and if they are excessive by any law(s)?" In general, no one does, because there are no laws that limit working hours on a general scale (except for minors). Usually only for specific jobs which could be dangerous if one is exhausted, like drivers and trauma nurses. There are only seventeen states that require employers to give any kind of break at all. And none that limit shifts. For the most part, one is free to work him or herself to death, should that be preferred over quitting. ;)
