What are the labor laws?

I work the 4 to 12am shift. then have to be back at work at 8am. By law should I have more then an 8hour turn around?

There is no requirement that you have to have any time off between shifts.

in the US there are very few occupations that require a certain time off between shifts, truckers, pilots, etc, as you can work 24 hours a day there is no law that says you get a certain amount of time off between shifts.

Not by federal law. Some states require some break but you didn't say where you were.
