What are the laws about posting pictures of other people on media such as the internet.?

The ex boyfriend of my wifes sister has posted a picture of my wife with her bra showing through due to a black light at cedar point on his facebook account. he refuses to remove the picture.

this picture is a defamation to my wifes character and she does not want it on the internet!

Where can I find what laws in michigan will apply to this. if need be i will contact a laywer and sue facebook. i have already reported the picture to facebook.

I believe that i am correct in saying that you cannot post pictures of any person on any media without their prior permission. is this correct?

If your sister-in-law is a public figure and the ex is not making money from the photo, then he can post away.

But private persons have a right to protect that privacy. In addition to your written complaint to facebook, a cease and desist letter to the ex is in order as well.

After that, the lawsuit is against the ex. But the problem with the case is the measure of damages. From what you say, the photo is revealing but it may not present her in a defaming or even unflattering way. It may be a tough case to win any money damages, but you can still file one in order to get an order to remove the photo.
