What are the Ohio rental laws?

Postby atworth49 » Tue Apr 05, 2011 8:34 am

My boyfriend lives in Ohio and he wants to move out of where he is living now. He is telling me that the leases have to be notarized, and the landlord has to do a credit check and a debt-to-ration check, no matter what. he says its the law. I live up in Mi and am trying to help him find a place, but that's what he is telling me.

Why don't you do a landlord/tenant law search for the state of Ohio on Google?? Do you really think anybody is going to repeat all the laws written on that subject? Do you really trust everybody that posts to this website? Your question is way too broad and requires specific knowledge that you should obtain firsthand.

A lease does not have to be notarized. Most landlords do run credit checks and a debt to income ratio, but there are no laws that say they have to. If your boyfriend wants out of his lease he'll have to pay whatever the early out clause says.
