What type of penalty would a 15 year-old (time of arrest) pay if convicted of grand theft (stolen car). The individual is now 16. This individual has never been in trouble with the Law. The individual was not the driver and did not know the car was stolen. The case is in NYS Family Court.

Grand theft auto is NOT a misdemeanor; it is a felony. Unless the driver fesses up that the sixteen year old had no idea the vehicle was stolen, I think he can expect at least a probated sentence. I have no idea the length of probation or the amount of fines involved.
