Last evening/night my family (wife, in-laws and myself) got into a huge fight. My mother-in-law was drinking and then I don't what started it but we just started a huge fight. Everyone was kicking and punching while my children watched screaming at us to stop. After the police came over and had us calmed down I stayed at a motel close to my home. Last night incident was still an issue but we're doing better I guess. Thankfully I never had to go to jail even though I hurt my mother-in-law very badly on the left side of her face. What can we do to fix this big problem? I love my family and feel guilty; as with everyone in the house for being stupid.

WOW. Sounds like a bad fight but i think the best thing for you to do is to take a break of each other. You should move away from your step mother with your kids but make sure that you can still drop your kids off in the drive way, just because you don't have that well of a realationship with your step mother does not mean that your kids can't. I wish you luck with things.

You all need to stop drinking. Seriously. Even if your mom-in-law was drunk, I doubt you would have responded violently if you were sober.

I think your family is affected by the family disease of alcoholism with all its ugly.
