Become a lawyer/psychiatrist, if you don't mind spending your life in school. I know several MDs who practiced psychiatry for a few years and then went to law school. They are in great demand in cases where the defendant?s state of mind or competency to stand trial is at issue in a case.   The ones that I know first did there psychiatry residency. Then they did an additional year specializing in forensic psychiatry, which is a subspecialty of psychiatry. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forensic_psychiatry   Something else that they are called upon to do is to conduct psychiatric autopsies in civil cases. In big cases there are major dollars at stake, so their time is well compensated.     While a medical autopsy examines the body of the deceased, a psychiatric autopsy considers the deceased?s mental state. When the circumstances surrounding a death can be interpreted in more than one way and the manner of death is unclear, forensic psychiatrists, along with forensic pathologists, toxicologists and psychologists can compile information about behavior and motive to distinguish among accident, homicide and suicide as possible modes of death. Forensic death investigation may be pivotal to the decision to pursue criminal charges. Or, when "beyond a reasonable doubt" is too high a threshold to achieve, death investigation by a forensic psychiatrist may contribute to a civil proceeding where expert conclusions need be "more likely than not." In order to make an expert determination of mode and cause of death, the examination conducted by forensic psychiatrists of The Forensic Panel considers numerous factors. Important sources of information include the death scene, all documentation pertaining to the death, interviews with family members and associates, the subject?s medical history and evidence of recent stressors, all relevant documents pertaining to the individual?s life history and any changes in that person?s will or life insurance policies. Careful reliance on the evolving history of suicidality, drug use and accident reconstruction are also vital to solving such puzzles.  www.forensicpanel.com/expert_services/psychiatry/criminal_law/death_investigation.html Whatever you decide to do, good luck to you.   Sources: life as a lawyer and cited above   Snow_Leopard's Recommendations Fundamentals of Forensic Practice: Mental Health and Criminal Law Amazon List Price: $74.95 Used from: $50.59 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5(based on 2 reviews) Principles and Practice of Forensic Psychiatry(Principles & Practices) Amazon List Price: $225.00 Used from: $151.35 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5(based on 5 reviews) Learning Forensic Assessment(International Perspectives on Forensic Mental Health) Amazon List Price: $130.00 Used from: $127.79 Snow_Leopard 48 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. There are forensics for traffic and air crashes(causes), for bad business decisions, and why Americans would vote for Sarah Palin. I would google something like, "forensics of" and see if anything clicks. Good luck. 48 months ago
