What do you think 2 federal lawsuits target Nebraska town's ordinance on illegal immigrants?

Two federal lawsuits were filed Wednesday against the small town of Fremont, Neb., seeking to overturn a controversial ordinance banning illegal immigrants from renting homes or taking jobs.

Fremont, a rural town with a population of about 25,000, found itself at the front line of the immigration debate when it passed the law after a special election last month.

It was due to go into effect July 29, but a federal lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union seeks an immediate injunction while the legal battle is taking place. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund also filed suit against the city.

About 45 percent of the town's eligible voters turned out for the special election, approving the ordinance 57 percent to 43 percent. Supporters of the law said it was needed because illegal immigrants were taking away jobs from legal workers and because the federal government has refused to take sufficient action against illegal immigration.

The ACLU's lawsuit claims the law is unconstitutional because immigration policy is the responsibility of the federal government. It also states that the measure risks committing racial profiling and fanning discrimination.

"There's a very palpable fear that is being expressed by our clients on the ground already, asking if they should just move out of Fremont," said Amy Miller, legal director of ACLU Nebraska. "Nebraska doesn't need a law on its books that, like Arizona's, is completely out of step with American values of fairness and equality."

The federal govt already banned illegals from working in the United States in 1986. That law, the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act, is still on the books. But it's never been enforced. It's not about fairness, it's about the law. With that in mind, the Mexican Immigration Law is very unfair.

Im totally supporting it and hope many others jump on board. Use Obama logic against him, by means of numerous cities doing the same and when there are to many for the government to fight he'll cave like he's doing with immigration but be forced to side with AMERICANS. " for a change "

I think it is sad that the US government is is more worried about laws people pass than securing the border that allows them to come here.

I think a lot of people are getting pissed off at Obama and groups like the ACLU. This is a war and it's just beginning, I have a feeling it's going to get ugly.

"Nebraska doesn't need a law on its books that, like Arizona's, is completely out of step with American values of fairness and equality."
===============================
Americans don't need anyone at all spending their money as the ACLU is now doing. Further, the ACLU doesn't see to understand much of anything about fairness and equality when illegal aliens are very, very busy consuming all the tax dollars they can get their hands on.

There has to be easy money for the ACLU as they do things this way. If that were not the case, they would be going after the Federal Government for NOT enforcing the immigration law in the first place. Can we, I wonder, smell the deep stench of Mexican Government Money moving the ACLU to intervene in all the processes that involve this source of easy money for Mexico? Maybe not... maybe it is just common rat in the ACLU itself.
---------

An excellent post from the Washington Post.
-------------------------------
""We're going to do all we can to make sure this extreme law, which would lead to individuals losing housing and jobs because of their appearance and language ability, never goes into effect."

NO. They will lose their job or housing because they're ILLEGAL immigrants, which is within the law.

"The ACLU's lawsuit claims that the law is unconstitutional because immigration policy is the sole responsibility of the federal government."

You mean the federal government condones ILLEGAL ALIENS in this country: so this is their new "immigration policy".
Is policy and law the same thing?

The reason Fremont is doing this is because there are two meat packing plants slated to open in the area.It is a preemptive strike to prevent what has happened to other towns in the area, such as Storm Lake Iowa.Storm Lake was a wonderful, quiet lake side town. One of those towns that you knew most everybody and you could leave your doors open at night.Since a pack came there, the town is over run with illegals and crime rates have sky rocketed. Not only can you not leave your doors unlocked but you had better be inside your home before it gets dark.Fremont is wise to do what they are doing. If the Federal Government will not protect us then God bless the local Governments that will.
