What exactly is meant by walking in the light/darkness?

Postby dent81 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 9:17 am

Additional details are too long, sorry I didn't read them.

The darkness is where we hide everything we don't want people to see, it's our dark secrets i.e. things we're ashamed of.

Letting the light in means not having those secrets - bring the hidden things into the full light of public exposure - that means tell the truth all the time even about things you don't want people to know about. It will result in you walking around confident knowing that nobody can tell anything about you that everyone doesn't already know. Then the best thing is then to take your acts of righteousness, the things you're proud of, the thing most people boast about and hide them deep down and keep them things secret so if someone didn't like you (and as a Christian you tend to make a lot of enemies) do some digging into your background all the dirt they find on you is already public knowledge and everything that you have been keeping secret that they discover only makes you look good.

The light is walking with God. The darkness is not believing or knowing the truth about God or simply not excepting the truth which is that Jesus is the true Son of the living God. Not believing in the Trinity. (The Father the Son and the Holy Spirit and that they are one.) Or knowing it and refusing to obey the commandments of God. (The ten commandments)

Like most books, it is best appreciated that you read from the very start.
For the case of the Bible, start with book of Genesis.
I love this book since it shows all the feelings of God the Father.
As you take each book of the Bible slowly, things would be more clear to you.

God bless you!

Walking in the light means you have bags over you feet and the bags are filled with light beer. Preferable Coors Light. Walking in Darkness means the bags are filled with Dark Malt Beer.

oh no we are definately not dead to the fleshly desires. it is a daily journey every day to commit yourself to try your best. what you do have now is God's spirit guiding you. the darkness means a place of sin with no hope just dark awful sadness no purpose, the light is Christ and love, all things good. it is still a battle daily to try and grow in your faith to keep going. God will never leave you or forsake youu ever. I have hardened my heart to God before and if was not good. eventually His spirit brought me back out of the darkness again...just know it is a journey, a very rewarding one. You will make mistakes but living under grace means you will be forgiven and he will never leave you. Believe me when I tell you that you can make that voice of God's quieter say drugs or alcohol but remember you belong to God and just try you best each day. When you get down or things aren't going your way, remember God has a plan for you and try and do something nice for someone else. Try to listen to the Spirit now living in your heart. even if sometimes it doesn't make sense follow that instinct and you will have more light so to speak in your life. also be careful on yahoo answers a lot of athiests and just some other jerks will write mean things to you because of faith whenn you ask these questions. I am not saying don't write them just know you will get some good and some mean answers in there too. God bless you and way to make a positive change in your life!!!!! You are saved by faith the baptism is more of an outward show of your inward faith but yes get baptized too ok but faith lives inside of you and so does God's spirit;) You can always message me if you have any questions ok

Sin shall no longer be your master. Your new master will be Jesus, and you should strive to follow Him. Lust will not disappear.

It is certainly possible to stray for the Word and lose your salvation. It seems you've been taught that this is not possible, and I am so glad you have been trying to learn more about our faith. But, you have found a loophole in the Protestant teaching of Once saved, Always saved. This is a false teaching that did not originate until after the Blessed Apostles. This teaching and belief is not even Biblical, as shown here, this doctrine is easily proven wrong:
Matthew 7:21
Matthew 24:13
Luke 8:13
Luke 9:62 (sin can turn you away)
Romans 11:20
Galatians 5:4 (possible to fall from grace)
I Timothy 3:6
And my favorite,
Phil 2:12 (why does Paul warn of this? Because he is afraid that they will not work out there salvation with fear of punishment, and instead walk as if they have already been saved.)

Yes, you must accept Jesus to be saved, but you love Him and follow his commandments, John 14:15. This is a lot of Information, I am thankful that you want to learn, just be very careful with those doctrines of man, that seek to gain memberships in Churches, and good feelings all around, but not to follow God how He has said too.

Apostate views are rejected by loyal spirit-begotten Christians. Since “an anointing from the holy one,” Jehovah, helps them to understand his Word, ‘all of them have knowledge.’ (Read 1 John 2:20, 21.) They surely know “the truth” as it relates to Jesus Christ, whereas the apostates have erroneous ideas about him. Since “no lie originates with the truth,” all lovers of Jehovah reject such false views and those advocating them.
After all, “who is the liar if it is not the one that denies that Jesus is the Christ,” God’s Anointed One? (Read 1 John 2:22-25.) Why, ‘the one that denies the Father and the Son is the antichrist’! Interestingly, when an early associate of Bible student Charles T. Russell denied the ransom, Russell withdrew from fellowship with him and began publishing this journal, which has always declared the truth about Christ’s origin, Messianic role, and loving service as the “propitiatory sacrifice.”
Apostates who deny Christ do not have Jehovah as their Friend. (John 5:23) But we who publicly ‘confess the Son have the Father,’ being in an approved relationship with God. (Matthew 10:32, 33) Jesus’ loyal early followers clung to what they had heard about God’s Son “from the beginning” of their lives as Christians. And if the same truth is in our hearts, we will “abide in union” with both God and Christ and will receive “the promised thing,” everlasting life.—John 17:3.
Taught by Jehovah God
To walk in divine light and not be misled by apostates, we need proper spiritual instruction. (Read 1 John 2:26-29.) Spirit-begotten ones have an “anointing” by holy spirit, have come to know God and his Son, and “do not need anyone [an apostate] to be teaching” them. By his anointing spirit, God “is teaching” spiritual Israelites “about all things” needed in order to worship him acceptably. (John 4:23, 24; 6:45) We are delighted that as Jehovah’s Witnesses we receive such spiritual instruction from God through “the faithful and discreet slave.”—Matthew 24:45-47.
John urges well-instructed anointed ones to “remain in union with” God. Those “in union with” Jehovah are similarly at unity with his Son.

What exactly is meant by walking in the light/darkness?

Lust probably won't leave you. What I do is think back on situations I've witnessed and you know what? I see God there, You wouldn't think God would be there say at a circle jerk when you are 13 years old only you are the sister lying naked in your brother's bedroom to watch. God made everybody llike that. True story.
I also went through my daughter's 'me' times. (I am a 62 year old retired single father). If you want to know what happened I didn't confront her I went to her mother and told her not to confront her but to tell her therapist. She was 17 then and I know that is when girls are most likely to do it so I was alerted and noticed she turned on her tv yada yada yada.
God made everybody like that and to make a long story short my ex came back with our baby's response when speaking to her therapist.
"What was dad doing in the back?" lol ironic
God gave me that precious little daughter and I've always shown her I believe that by how I love her and she loves me and God is love.
Got more stories...

does that mean once you are baptized and have crucified your flesh that you will no longer have desires of the flesh?

no you will be tempted to commit sin through the desires of the flesh
we have the holy spirit the power of god to put our bodies in submission to god to not give in to those desires and refrain our body from committing sin
when a person who is not saved is tempted they naturally give in to their desires they can not over come them

Is it possible that once you are in the son that there is a possibility that you will not remain in the son if you stray from the word?
were always saved we just distance our self from god sometimes by our sin
if we stay close to the lord in submission to him and his will we will over come our lustful desires

That if you allow yourself to sin, you are no longer godly and eventually god will stop walking with you.?
not true god will never stop walking with us who are saved
a person is saved who clings to salvation with god constantly
if you claim you are saved but give up some where along the way and reject it you were never saved in the first place

Hebrews 3:6
But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence (faith in salvation) and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end (until we die).

when you call on jesus to save you your saved
romans 10:9
you have already been buried with christ and resurrected to a new person with christ jesus

Titus 3:5
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his (god's) mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

the holy spirit lives in us when were saved

walking in the light means living as jesus did with the power of the holy spirit in us to resist temptation as jesus did and not give in to temptation and remain sinless

we will no longer be influenced by sin and our nature?
we will always be tempted as jesus was but now we have the power of god to resist temptation and never give in to it

If we are dead to sin and to the flesh, we no longer have the desire to sin? T
no the our bodies will still seek to want us to sin
the power of god suppresses that urge and over comes it
we will not give in to the temptation
