What happens if you get a drug paraphernalia in south dakota, but live in illinois?

My boyfriend was on a trip to the badlands with his friends and on upon his return home they got pulled over. When they got pulled over the cop asked if he could search my boyfriends car because he found a bong on the center council. While doing this the cop found a bag of weed. He took the two friends whos lugage contained the weed to jail and my boyfriend got a ticket that said drug paraphernalia. Also my boyfriend is 19. I had a few question because he is super worried about all of this. Will this show up on his insurance since he got the ticket in south dakota, but lives in illinois? Will his license get suspended? (He has had two speeding tickets before all this too) Will all this affect his dream of college?
