Postby treasigh » Mon Jul 23, 2012 5:10 am

Ok so my due date has come and gone and as of Sunday I will be two weeks over due and my doctor wants to induce that morning I am a little nervous, seeing that I am a first time mom and all the different things you read on the internet I am getting quite nervous I keep reading how it is horrible and it leads to c sections and it makes labor take forever, I'm just looking for some insight, what they actually do how long on average labor actually takes when induced and personal suggestions that helped anyone thru btw I can't have an epidural due to a previous back injury so anything to deal with the pain. Basically just any suggestions thanks a nervous mom to be

They stick a foot long tube up your crotch and then you feel like your peeing on yourself! It BURNS like nobody's business! Then it feels like a million knives are stabbing you in your stomach and vagina, as well as your butt hole.

What is it like to be induced?

I was induced with pitocin and I had an easy labor with a vaginal delivery. 6.5 hours, plus 30-40 mins of pushing. No complications. It is probably a bit late to get into a class, but look into the Bradley method to try to help cope with the pain. Best of luck!

Have you started to dilate or not? If so, you will be given pitocin, which brings on contractions hard, then after a few hours, your dr will break your water if the contractions don't cause it to break. If you are not dilated yet, you will have a gel put on your cervix to soften it and then pitocin and then your water broke. pain management wise, I had nubain through my IV. I was wanting to push but wasn't dilated enough, so I got that and I still felt my contractions but I slept through labor, it just helped me relax. with my first, i just had pitocin, my labor was 6 hours after my water was broke. my second i had cervadil at 1130 pm. at 530 am i had pitocin and at 730 am my dr broke my water and at 1019 am i had my daughter. with my third, i went naturally at 1 cm and was in labor for 9 hours. Theres really no way to tell how your body will react to being induced. my cousin was induced and her bones didnt soften and the baby got stuck in the birth canal. so , its really a 50/50 shot if you will have an good labor or have a hard labor or have to have a csection. i have heard inductions lead to csections but i know knowbody that was induced that had a csection, 1 should have but the dr was dumb and has a lawsuit against her now for almost killling my cousin bc she wouldnt perform a csection. good luck! if the nurses let you walk around... do it! walk and rock your hips to get that baby moved down,

I was induced with pitocin and they broke my water. It took about 2 hours for the contractions to start after the pitocin, but when they started, they were fast and strong. The pain was pretty awful. I got a walking epidural (sorry I know that isn't an option for you.) After about 7 hours of hard contractions, it was time to push, less than half an hour later my daughter was born. She came out pretty quickly though, so I did have 3rd degree tear. That was the worst part of healing. Good luck, I hope you have an easy and labor.

What is it like to be induced?

Induced labours don't always take ages, in fact the majority of them are fairly normal or quick. Being induced can take a while to get going in some people, depending on whether their cervix is ready and what method they use to get the contractions going.

They might put a gel or tablet near your cervix to get it soft if it isn't already. If your dilated they may break your waters and start you off with a medicine which will stimulate the contractions. The contractions may seem more painfull because they can start off pretty intense and start quickly as well. Some women don't labour well even with Pitocin or intervention and only if the baby's breathing becomes laboured or there is potential problems will they do a C section.

You can have gas and air or a painkiller injection. Gas and air might make you woozy and the painkiller injection might make you feel sleepy and it can be like being really drunk. I had a small dose of the injection and it took the edge off the pain but didn't eliminate it completely. As for length of labour, you could have a speedy one or you could be labouring for up to 12 hours or more from start to finish.

Learn your breathing techniques..they will help when you get the contractions, helps get your mind in the right place it needs to be to get that baby out.

What is it like to be induced?

Well I will be very frank and honest. Induced labor is very painful. I was induced because my cervix wasn't open wide enough. I was in tabor for 14 hours and vomited 3 times. Eventually I had to get a c-section. Best advice I can give you is walk walk walk! But if you have to go with induced then do. It's no fun but you are a mom and will do anything for you baby.
