Normal fee is 33.33 percent. Read the contract carefully though as it can go up to 40 or 50% after suit is filed. While there are lawyers that will take a case for less, you probably don't want them. Remember that contingency fees only work in civil tort cases involving injuries, sexual harassment and a few class action type cases.I'm in California. There are some law firms that will handle personal injury cases on a contingency fee basis (e.g. they only get money if you win a settlement). Does anyone know the average percent or fee they take out?
