I'm in California. There are some law firms that will handle personal injury cases on a contingency fee basis (e.g. they only get money if you win a settlement). Does anyone know the average percent or fee they take out?

Normal fee is 33.33 percent. Read the contract carefully though as it can go up to 40 or 50% after suit is filed. While there are lawyers that will take a case for less, you probably don't want them. Remember that contingency fees only work in civil tort cases involving injuries, sexual harassment and a few class action type cases.

As an Atlanta injury lawyer with 11 years of experience, I would suggest that you look for a lawyer that actually emails you back personally after you contact them on the website. For more modest cases, the hardest part is getting good customer service and an early realistic evaluation of your case.

Remember they wont be able to evaluate your case until they know the total of the medical bills. Below is a link to the article that I wrote on what Georgia car accident cases are worth and even though it is a different state, the basic rules still apply.
