I guess everyone will have a diffrent answer but I think that the free stuff works for a little bit but not forever I've had the best luck with a program called Spyware Doctor. It costs a bit to buy the program ,it cost me $30.00 last year but so far it's been the best investment ever. I already have Adaware and Norton Antivirus software installed but Spyware Doctor is the best that I've got. This program finds everything! I had used Norton Internet Securit for many years. Each new release seems to be worse than the previous. Then I betatested Norton360. Not that good for experienced users. To do that, I had to uninstall my version of Norton Internet Security(2005 or 2006). When the betatesting expired, I tried to reinstall my software, but couldn't go through. It said I had installed it too many times. That pissed me up and I started to look for alternatives, to compare them to Norton. I have tested CA's and McAfee's solutions. I like Norton I would have to recommend Norton AntiVirus, just because I work there. But virus and spyware protection is very import these days with all of those sick people out there. I would pick the ones in your price range, and compare them side-by-side for whichever has the most features you like. If you use AOL, you can get MacAfee from them for free. There is also one called AVG Antivirus which is free from Grisoft(i believe). For the spyware end, I would stress you get SpySweeper from Webroot, and they also offer an antivirus plan all in one program.
