What Online Database Is Best For Obtaining Statistics On Any Number Of Topics For The U.s. And The World?

Postby Bitten » Sat Feb 08, 2014 10:24 am

I would like to see details by age groups of how many people die each year in the US in car accidents - icluding types of accidents - medical problems, etc. I am not doing research just curious about these facts for the US and the world. How many people have what type of medical problems? How many survive these problems and how many die from them each year? What are the income ranges of Americans? The rest of the world population? What is the income for the top 5% of Americans? 10%? etc. I hear many statistics quoted on news shows but do not know where to search to verify or research any of these for my own edification. Some are very interesting statistic and some are very grim and disturbing.

.... but the CIA World Facts db gives a lot of information on many topics throughout the world. The US government has a couple of places to go for this. I?ve had to go looking for some of this information before for my job.   The National Death Index might be helpful for some of your questions: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/deaths.htm   For income ranges, there?s census data available through www.census.gov- along with about a million and a half other demographics. You can get stuff stratified by census blocks, which are pretty small.   For a general example, I went through American Factfinder, Summary 3 and found this: PCT45. MEDIAN INCOME IN 1999(DOLLARS) BY SEX BY WORK EXPERIENCE IN 1999 FOR THE POPULATION 15 YEARS AND OVER WITH INCOME [6] - Universe: Population 15 years and over with income in 1999 Data Set: Census 2000 Summary File 3(SF 3) - Sample Data   United States Median income in 1999 --   Male --   Total 27,932 Worked full-time, year round in 1999 38,349 Other 15,125 Female --   Total 16,327 Worked full-time, year round in 1999 28,135 Other 9,936 U.S. Census Bureau Census 2000   You can get this sort of data on other geographic regions- states, counties and cities, so you can personalize the statistics you want. Census tracts are taken to be large enough so there is no personally identifiable data, though.   For motor vehicle statistics in particular, the NHTSA website may be the place to look. dondon 79 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment.
