What other hoops do I need to jump through to open a web-based business in California?

Postby lorimar » Tue Jul 31, 2012 2:01 pm

Hi there; I'm a jeweler and am planning on selling my goods on a website. I live in CA, applied for and have received a CA seller's license and have purchased the domain name I have given to my business. I also have an e-card reader that will attach to my iPhone for craft fairs if I choose to participate in those events in the future. My main question is, what other hoops do I need to jump through to make sure that this is legitimate? A major concern is the name of the business, which I have not registered, copyrighted or trademarked. I think different things would need to be done if I were solely operating a web-based business, or solely selling my goods in person at a craft fair. If anyone in CA has been through this process and can help me to avoid massive fines or problems down the road, advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

6th person to ask this in 24 hours;
Luck to you; if you can sell 4 pieces of jewelry in 1 mo, I will be amazed.

have you already--
written a biz plan?
read 2-3 books on small biz?
done market research

is this a passion of yours?

whose problems will you be solving? That is why people open up a biz and why customers buy.

luck to u
