What Are Some Sightseeing Spots Between Los Angeles And Dallas?

Let's see, trying to visualize what you happen to be likely to pass via on this route. Appears like Vegas is possibly a bit also far north, but Phoenix and possibly Tucson or El Paso, based on route. Tombstone is north of PhoeSeenix, or would you take into account veering south far sufficient to see the Rio Grande? Provided the immigration problems of right now, that might be worth any detour. A couple items that may be further kid friendly along the way would be the Phoenix Zoo. It is large, way spread out, so it isn't one thing you can do in a half-hour, but worth a stop. Kids will really like the baboons, I'm positive. No clue what it expenses these days, but was around $15 for adults at one point. Can't fairly recall exactly where Mystery Castle is positioned, but it's one thing kids of this age may well find exciting, tho' some find it a bit creepy. If I'm remembering the story correctly, it was built by a father for his daughter as sorta her fantasy castle, but with the Southwestern flavor. Lots of folks claim its haunted, giving it additional appeal to youngsters, tho' most find it just a bit odd, tho' usually in a very good way. There is a science center and I am positive a lot more than a couple intriguing museums in Phoenix, also, of course, but I'd recommend you take time to verify out some of the nearby shops with Native crafts and art. Gives a really feel for an area that the a lot more touristy trap stuff does not capture.Tucson is someplace I won't claim to have been, but hear Biosphere 2 Center(32540 S Biosphere Rd, Oracle, AZ 85623 · 520-838-6200) is anything that might intrigue kids. Just distinct adequate from the rest of the Southwestern motif and scenery to capture their interest, possibly. If you've got much more time to devote, how about a quit at a dude ranch? Can I go? http://www.ranchweb.com/tanque-verde-ranch/ is 1 in the Tuscon location that looks like it'd be fun. Preserve your eyes peeled driving, as well, cos there will be lots of intriguing smaller sized factors along the road that are properly worth stopping. You are going to be in cowboy country, that's for certain! As soon as you get to El Paso, there's a zoo there, tho' never recall it becoming as considerably exciting as the one back in Phoenix, but possibly I was just into the baboons there. I am pretty confident there was a trolley ride in town, also, that youngsters seemed to uncover exciting. Isn't it amazing that "ol' fashioned" stuff like that nonetheless has the power to entertain? There is an Indian Reservation somewhere in that vicinity, as well. As soon as you hit Texas, of course, you'll be seeing lots of exciting sights, from the big city sprawl of Dallas itself, to the far more cowyboy really feel of areas not that far out of cityscapes. Hope this assists at least a bit. Been a lengthy, long time given that I've been in that area, so refreshing my memory was fun!

What Are Some Sightseeing Spots Between Los Angeles And Dallas?

Postby Durant » Fri Jan 31, 2014 9:40 am

Besides the Grand Canyon? My friend and I made this exact trip last year. We mapped the whole thing out on Rand McNally before we started. First we went through the mountains where you must turn off your air conditioner for 10 miles in 100 degree weather or else your car will overheat. Take water. Then we spent the night at the Hilton Spa in Sedona. Definitely a good sight-seeing spot. ;) We got up very early to see the sunrise over Sedona canyon, but it ended up being a waste of time. It would have been much better at sunset. Then we went to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and on to the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest. Those two are together. On the way to the Petrified Forest if you are on route 66, you will pass the WigWam hotel. You must stop and take pictures. The old cars in front of it are a blast too. From that point to Dallas, there?s not much to see. You are traveling through west Texas after all. For the record, the whole trip took about 28 hours of driving, including the detours that we made. This trip is not recommended with a car sick cat. =P   princesa_ella's Recommendations Nikon D80 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-135mm AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5(based on 77 reviews) Unforgettable: With Love Amazon List Price: $18.98 Used from: $0.49 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5(based on 47 reviews) Frito Lay Cheetos Crunchy, Cheese Flavored Snacks, 9.5 oz Average Customer Rating: 4.0 out of 5(based on 9 reviews) of course, you need the essentials... princesa_ella 79 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. What Are Some Sightseeing Spots Between Los Angeles And Dallas?

Postby gillian59 » Fri Feb 07, 2014 4:59 pm

I made a longer trip(Monterey to San Angelo) that took the same path around this time of year and the temperatures in Phoenix nearly killed my poor car. It was around 110 degrees. Keep in mind that any place you stop along the way is going to be really, really hot. That said, I'd take a look at Camelback Mountain in Phoenix:5700 North Echo Canyon ParkwayPhoenix, AZ 85018-1254+1 602 256 3220Towering 1,400 feet, this mountain features the unmistakable shape of a camel. North trailhead offers sheer red cliffs rising 200 feet vertically in some areas, which beckon rock climbers. Facilities are limited at the Echo Canyon Recreation Area with only a trailhead water fountain, an interpretive ramada and trails. Desert wildlife is abundant here; you may see small animals such as snakes, lizards and Harris Antelope Squirrels as well as a variety of birds. Admission is free.http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2808336-camelback_mountain_phoenix-i;_ylt=Av1lyDmhl.ZX9urmDKrbeqgyFmoLAnd the South Mountain Park Scenic Drive:10919 South Central AvenuePhoenix, AZ 85042-8302+1 602 495 0222Drive through the world's largest park, a spacious 16,500 acres preserved with lookouts. Fantastic views are offered of Phoenix and the surrounding valley at this no-fee area. Summit lookout is at 2,330 feet and highlights the enormity of this sprawling desert area. For visitors, the Interpretive Center describes the heritage of the area and includes mining and botanical information. If you prefer getting out of the car, hike the trails and see the area's petroglyphs. Bring a lunch and enjoy the park's picnic areas with ramadas. Remember your sunscreen, hat and drinking water when visiting Arizona's parks.Information by WcitiesOpen Hours: 5:30a-8p daily, seasonal hours please callhttp://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2808365-south_mountain_park_scenic_drive_phoenix-i;_ylt=AjaKD2uri6HlDe0lexdd_K8yFmoLAnd if you can stop for a while, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson:2021 North Kinney RoadTucson, AZ 85743-9719+1 520 883 1380This world-famous museum is rather a zoo displaying the creatures of the surrounding desert in their natural habitats. Located in the middle of the Sonoran desert about an half-hour drive from the city center, it also provides breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges. The gift shop has an excellent selection of Sonoran desert souvenirs. This is a must for any visitor staying in Tucson for more than just one day. Admission: Adults(age 13 & older) USD9.95 Oct-Mar; USD8.95 Mar-Sep; children ages 6-12 USD1.75; children under 6 and members are free. Group rates are available.http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2809960-arizona_sonora_desert_museum_tucson-i;_ylt=Ah_xGmNwJEYgHXcuBpfk6HE1FmoLAnd Sabino Canyon:5600 North Sabino Canyon RoadTucson, AZ 85750Of all the natural attractions in and around Tucson, Sabino Canyon is certainly the most popular. This large chasm in the Santa Catalina Mountains is where ancient Hohokam people built irrigation dams while mammoths roamed the ground. Access is free, but there is a USD5 charge for parking. Highlights are swimming(conditions allowing) in clear pools after a six-mile hike to Seven Falls and summer evening shuttle rides by pre-paid reservations. Sabino tram rides run USD6 for adults and USD2.50 for children ages 3-12. Bear shuttles run USD3 for adults and USD1 for children 3-12.Information by WcitiesOpen Hours: Park: Dawn-dusk daily, Shuttles: 9a-4p every hour on the hour M-F, 9a-4:30p every 30 minutes Sa-Suhttp://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2809886-sabino_canyon_tucson-i?action=describeI stopped in Las Cruces and had a pleasant night, but I can't think of anything offhand in New Mexico that would be interesting for the kids. I stayed in Abilene, too, but again there's not much there. There are a bunch of historical mile markers along the way and there may be a couple worth stopping at, but I can't think of anything from memory. But once you get to Dallas(I spent a lot of time in Dallas), you guys might want to take this in:Dallas World Aquarium & Zoological Gardens1801 N Griffin StDallas, TX 75202-1503+1 214 720 2224Discover a South American rainforest filled with unique plants and animals such as monkeys, colorful toucans, crocodiles, manatees and otters. The aquarium portion features 85,000-gallons of saltwater with marine life from around the world. Rare sea dragons, giant clams and endangered sea turtles are but a few of the intriguing animals on display. An outdoor lagoon-like exhibit features Black-footed penguins. See their website for information on special exhibits and prices.http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2742914-dallas_world_aquarium_zoological_gardens_dallas-i;_ylt=AuI2w8PDexZ9_J3nWkMIKIa.FmoLPlenty of other things to do in Dallas, to be sure, but I thought that was particularly nice.Anyway, I hope those suggestions help. Have fun on the trip!!
