Several years ago, my boss won a judgment against a woman in Texas who owed you a couple of thousand dollars. She still wouldn't pay. As it happened, I went on a business trip out there and he asked me to do him a favor and try to collect from her. Long story short, it didn't happen. She refused to pay and there wasn't much I could do.Ironically, my boss had gotten the judgment like you, from small claims court. The case was pretty straightforward and he didn't want to pay for an attorney. But in order to actually collect the money, he still had to hire a lawyer that specialized in those things. In the end, I don't think he got all his money, but the lawyer intimidated the woman enough so that she at least paid him something. I'd have to recommend you save yourself a headache and go that route, too.Of course, try to contact the person and tell him that you've got a judgment against him and that you'd like to collect. He may pay you just to get rid of you. It doesn't sound to like he's that kind of person, though. So if you don't want to hire a lawyer, you may need to hire a private investigator to gather the appropriate information so that you can garnish his wages.I know, it's not what you hoped for, but I think hiring someone to help you is probably your best course of action and your best chance of recovering some of the money you're owed. I did a little web searching and I couldn't really find any better advice from anybody.Good luck!!
