Some charges are serious enough for the state to proceed without the complainant. Depending on the circumstances, that could an issue as well.

I was never told to stop contacting this person. They just contacted authorities and filed a complaint

No charges have been filed currently. Would this person have to file charges or will authorities take it upon themselves to file if they find that a crime was actually commited?
