University of Alberta
University of Manitoba

I like these two universities very much but obviously the University of Alberta has a higher ranking. The cost is also more expensive than the University of Manitoba. I want a University that will save me money, a friendly environment. At the same time, I am scared that at the end of my degree program, I would be looked down upon based on my choice of university. For instance, if I go to the University of Manitoba, I am worried that the competition would be so great and students of University of Alberta (or any other high ranked University) would be chosen over me based on my University.
Please prove me wrong.
I was talking to my friend and she insisted that I stayed in Edmonton to go to the University of Alberta because (in her words) "It is better and has a better quality of education. Its like leaving glory to grass". Should the "education quality" in Canada be equal? I mean, no one kind of school should be looked down upon?
This is Canada and I expect that the labour field should be unbiased when choosing employees and basing them on their school.
I want to study Law but I have chosen a major in Philosophy and a minor in Psychology. I absolutely love reading and writing and I am not really scared about going into this course.
I love English, Socials and other Art courses. I am not a pro in Math at all. Infact, I am the lowest in Math in my class write now. ( I think..)

Please help me clear this confusion for me?
Thanks!

Take a few minutes to think about your future. What do you want to do with your life? If you want to become a lawyer, you are looking at entering an highly competitive field, where every advantage you can earn will be necessary. If you want to be an artist or a teacher or even an housewife, the course of action you take is less important, when it comes to your choice of a college. It is important that you look at your goals, not your preferences, at this point. Do not choose the "easy" path, or the path that looks pleasant based on your likes and dislikes, as you will be disappointed, and not achieve your goals. As an aside, the Law requires mastery of accounting and an understanding of higher mathematics. The good news is that you do not have to feel pressured at this moment. You can start at the least expensive university, and work hard. Before the end of your second year, you can figure out what you really want to do, and transfer to a more prestigious college to obtain your BA or BS, assuming you have done your work and obtained good grades. You will apply for law school or whatever during your senior year in college.. You can take more than four years to finish your undergrad degree, if you so choose. Take your time and make the decision that is correct for you.

As to that old saw, equality, it is a myth. On the one hand, everyone has the same opportunity to choose to excel, but, on the other, there can never be a guarantee that everyone will succeed. No one can force another to do well, no law can force one to be a success. In our society today, it is obvious that everyone is not the Prime Minister. Therefore, we do not train everyone the same. Likewise, as we look around us, we see those among us who have special needs, and we would be remiss if we did not offer them talent specific education. Our system of education is devised to provide opportunity for all, not identical education for all. While the fact is that our colleges and universities vary in quality, reputation, and academic offerings, this is a positive, not a negative, since it promotes the cultural diversity that makes our country great.
