What shapes your personal political beliefs?

I'm a Libertarian, it first stems from what happened to by Grandmothers property. They used public domain to take 120 of her 150 acres (including the forested and land that connected to the lake) and ended up giving it to a developer that built 5 McMansions around the lake and roughly 25 acres per house. After they did this, they forced her to pay to move a cemetery of our family members who in some cases were buried over a 100 years ago. My family the "Clarks" were the first family to set up a homestead in our area and at one time our family owned over 2000 acres. After they started building they destroyed our land with the ill-constructed roads and the debris made the property a dump. It was horrible for my grandma who never lived anywhere else but on the homestead (her family rented a small cabin before she married my grandfather). After that I became a strong supporter of property rights then later became a libertarian. How about you what shapes your political beliefs?

I am hugely influenced by history and by hard facts to make my political decisions.

At first, most of my opinion was the same as my parents, but as I grow older that changes. I believe that reading articles onndomestic and world affairs is a very big influence, along with common sense, logic, and reality. I hope this helped!

Reality. Not some wishful thinking about how a government program is going to help some group.
