Use Lexisnexis to search for these records http://support.lexisnexis.com/lexiscom/record.asp?ArticleID=lexiscom_searchtip_corporate_bankruptcy#BankruptcyLexis nexis costs, but for this it is worth it.(800) 227-4908 now, for freeYour best bet is to watch local newspapers for bankruptcy filings, even network with local lawyers who are in that field. BusinessNation.com, Businessesforsale.com, or http://www.businessnation.com and http://www.businessesforsale.com both offer listings of businesses for sale and statistics about those businesses. There are plenty of similar sites out there like http://www.bizquest.com and http://www.bizbuysell.com. They all seem to offer a very similar selection of listings and information, although BizQuest seems to be one of the more popular of the sites.   An article called Find the Right Business to Buy on http://www.businessbookpress.com has a lot of useful tips and resources for people looking to purchase an existing business.   A software program called BizPricer may help you determine how much to spend on any given business that is for sale. On the flip-side, it will help those looking to sell a business determine how much they should ask for the sale of their company. It is very comprehensive and probably a worthwhile investment if you plan to spend any considerable amount of money on such a venture.   Hope that helps! Good luck...
