Which high school senior course schedule would seem better to colleges?

Postby alburt » Sat Jul 07, 2012 10:01 am

Precalc Course summer before Senior Year
AP Lang
AP Calc
AP Physics
AP Spanish
AP Euro

or

AP Lang
AP Spanish
AP Stat
AP Euro
AP Economics(AP Micro/Macro)
(Independent Study in physics)

I don't want to do anything in science in my future, if that matters. Duke University is my number 1, and I want to go into finance/Law
Really not a big fan of science, which is why I might prefer taking physics summer before. In order to take AP Physics and AP Calc, I would have to take a precalc course over the summer. FOr the second schedule, I would just take physics during the year, likely online, as I am fairly certain that most colleges want to see it. Would they look down on it if I took it over the year as non-ap independent study, or not take ap economics and take ap physics as a regular class?

BTW, duke is my #1 right now, prelaw/business program, great extra curriculars, 2310 SAT.

both options will put you in a good position applying to duke. however, both options seem very stressful. do you really want to spend your second semester cramming so many classes when you could be relaxing during the last days of high school?

Wow! Congratulations on the SAT score!
Now to answer your question, with that high SAT score, it doesn't matter which classes you end up taking. My scores weren't any where near yours but i still managed to get into Stanford. Besides the only difference I was able to notice from your schedules is that one has calculus and the other is stat. Calculus will always sound better however, If you are thinking of business as a major, then it would be best to take economics. Here is something to consider, why don't you take out AP Euro and add AP Econ to the first schedule? Goodness, you're going to have one busy senior year! Hope I helped.
