Who Has The Right Of Way At A T-intersection Containing A Yield And 2 Stop Signs In Nys?

Postby Burle » Wed Feb 03, 2016 5:12 pm

The stop signs are on the top of the T and the yield is for traffic entering from the bottom. I think that since the traffic is stopped and does not pose a hazzard to the traffic entering from the bottom, they would not need to stop at the yield. Others have said that since there is traffic at the intersection, then you have to stop at the yield.

and be courteous. Every one stops.  The one that arrived and stopped first, crosses first.   If in doubt wait to make sure you are safe.  No guarantees that the other driver will have the same ethics.   Here in our little snooty Colonial town in New Jersey we have all busy corners stop signs in each corner to make sure no driver will go without really looking both ways.   We had many pedestrians maimed and killed in our town as they crossed the streets in front of their churches and temples never taking a second look if a car was coming.  In the dark nights, with limited lighting people dressed in black crossed in front of incoming cars................. driver?s life for ever changed and no fault of their own.   Unfortunately giving the pedestrians the right of way created generations that has no respect for traffic and will jump and walk without looking.  Sometimes, reading a book.......  We, poor drivers, startled and worried now avoid center of town because if anyone has the tip of their toes on the crosswalk you better stop or else.   Young ones from the high school will walk side by side taking the whole street and if they see a car coming they reduce their walking speed.  They really want to make sure you hate them and the cops do nothing!   Just stop and look.

Who Has The Right Of Way At A T-intersection Containing A Yield And 2 Stop Signs In Nys?

A yield sign generally means that you may procede without stopping so long as there is no traffic at the intersection. A vehicle coming upon a T-intersection from the bottom of the T is going to have to slow considerably to make a 90-degree turn. You shouldn't have to stop, however, since the other two directions are already required to do so.
