Who is the least crazy of the Republican primary candidates, and how would they compare to an Eisenhower Repub?

The moderate, yet still "small government" Republican, Dwight Eisenhower. Who was perfectly fine with a 90% top marginal tax rate on top incomes and who also strongly supported SS and government having a role to help, actual working Americans.

"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt, a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

Dwight Eisenhower - November 8, 1954

Respondent Joe DeAngelo may need to do a bit of historical research, I notice...there was indeed a "90% top marginal tax rate on top incomes" in the Eisenhauer days, and I am old enough to remember.

Also, Social Security is NOT "broken" at all. The best way to shore up our Social Security Trust Fund, which is currently funded through 2033, is to STOP GOP OUTSOURCING of our revenue-producing jobs and EXPAND our U.S. JOBS BASE! The more jobs on American soil, the more consumer spending to strengthen and GROW our GOP-damaged economy, pay down our National Debt and our GOP-caused deficit, and pay into the Social Security Trust Fund to create solvency for years and years to come!

Who is the "least crazy of the Republican primary candidates," you ask. Although I am a HUGE Barack Obama fan (see whitehouse.gov, recovery.gov, politifact.com's Obameter, JibJab, and cnn.com/healthcare for reasons why), the sanest among the GOP and TeaP candidates is Jon Huntsman, who could perhaps compare with Dwight D. Eisenhauer on several points or policy preferences. I'm voting for President Obama, but Jon Huntsman should get more attention from the media as a moderate, in my opinion.

I'm not a Republican, but I would like to see more support for Mr. Huntsman. Though I do not agree with many of his ideas, he is thoughtful and intelligent and relies more on reason than affect-laden brainless cliches. How sad that our country does not give this man more respect and consideration!

You should stop believing Democrat hype. The Republicans do not want to do away with any of those things.

However, the current systems are broken and unsustainable; and only the Republicans have had the fortitude to try and change it.

As for your "90% tax" - no one ever paid that much because of the tax breaks available at that time. Oops - no one told you that, did they?

Unfortunately, none of them.

Eisenhower would be viciously attacked by the Tea Party and called a RINO if he were around today.
