Why are people on Yahoo Answers rude?

Postby achban » Thu Apr 07, 2011 12:41 pm

I am just curious as to why people on Yahoo Answers are sometimes rude and unhelpful.
I thought the purpose of this site is for ordinary people to ask questions, and for others who might have some knowledge in whatever field to answer them, not post libelous answers to your questions, because they obviously are experts and since you are not an expert they must find every thing they can to degrade you...
Why do people do this? If you cannot offer help or advice on someone's question why even answer?

I agree they may be very insecure with who they are.
Mostly they are looking for a fight, or to know they offended or hurt someone. Many people out there refuse to let anyone be happy and secure, while they are not. I keep a very positive outlook on things. Just ignore them. If they persist, report them. Do not, above all, give them the attention they seek. If they look for drama and don't find it, the game might become boring them as they find nobody plays it back with them. Hence, they will likely go away.

Why are people on Yahoo Answers rude?

Some people are just rude and mean, others hide behind the fact we don't know who they are. Sometimes though, and I try to be nice, somebody will just say something annoying, make a racist remark or something that it seems like the only way to deal with it is to come back with some kind of sarcasm. But many of us try to be nice, and like it when people are nice to us.

Some questions may offend other people causing them to post rude and degrading answer.

Why are people on Yahoo Answers rude?

Postby gustav » Thu Apr 07, 2011 1:09 pm

They're rude because mommy drinks too much and has a new guy over every night.. And daddy only comes around for that week before he goes back to jail. All the kids at school make fun of them for wearing dirty clothes and not taking a bath.

The only way to redeem any sort of self-esteem is to try and act cool on yahoo answers; for it is here that they can put people down.. and not get beat up.

You are absolutely right. The only reason I can think of is that there are many, many people out there with little going for themselves except trying to "put down" other people in order to convince themselves that their own lives aren't so pathetic. So many of the responses violate Y!/A guidelines that I don't even see how they get published.

I've received excellent, helpful responses to most of my questions, though there are almost always a few silly answers, but that's OK. It's up to me to read them all, use what I can use, and ignore the others. I've only "reported" one really vile response.

I have to candidly admit that I have been guilty of reponding untactfully on a couple of occasions myself, but I was never "reported" for one of those. The one and only time I've had a response removed was for something so innocuous that I can't even remember what it was...I just know that it was NOT hateful, and I thought it was a very appropriate answer. But, someone else obviously did not.

Ignore the rude (and, obviously, very immature or troubled) people!

I've explained this many times; the common sense answer to that is, this is a public site, online, there are many people here answering, all types, for all reasons and a certain amount of rudeness is par for the course on any site. youtube is the worst in my experience but anyway, the only solution is to not ask questions on any public site or if you do, be prepared to have rude responses and just deal with it. Block them, report them, ignore them. All you can do if you still want to ask questions, goes with the territory.
