Why did an underground band have a song labeled the pop song of the year?

Song: Blackout-Breath Carolina

First of all, the song sounds pop. Hard to tell if the guy who wrote this in his 'top ten' blog was quite sober or not, but more importantly a pop song occurs when there is mainstream attention. Yeah maybe the song got big enough to make a couple hundred 'loves' on hype machine hahahahahaha point and case. Support a small band that makes a sick enough song to become pop. People these days with itunes etc (creating a musical hierarchy of popularity) and with the ease of getting torrents: is causing a snobbiness to develop among people who normally help the music industry progress. Market share for the music industry is turning to an easier more free route, everyone knows/does it, but I fear that many will regret to have been apart of the era in time that destroyed the entire music industry. Maybe this will be the subject of a music history class in 2500 or maybe artist managers are too greedy; either way, in my opinion, within five years it will be difficult for non-remix bands to gain attention and let the natural music culture evolve. Of course this is due to technology, but shouldn't the population know that it should be regulated on (extremely) specific public actions? Even the founding fathers said that large portions of the general public aren't capable of knowing right from wrong in cases where they have later repeatedly regretted the status quo's decision. Thoughts?
