Drug laws create conditions where killing enemies is seen as a useful option. Part of the reason is that the desire for drugs is built into many animals, including humans.
The desire to owning guns, however, is not built into animals, not even human. Having fewer guns, and ending the ownership of automatic, high-power arms, would not cause violence, but would decrease it.
So, the general answer is: Limiting gun ownership saves lives, and so does decriminalizing drugs.
