Why do people think globalized trade is why America is a mess right now?

Postby shashank » Fri Jul 27, 2012 3:46 am

Exporting is what made the US a world power. We had electricity and consumer goods that the entire world demands. In WWII, the Allies came to us for weaponry. And America is still dominant of how much the world's economy depends on American products. Other countries buy our cars, technology and other goods. Even though manufacturing is predominant in China and third world countries, globalization is not the reason why we're down. At least, that's my two cents.

Exporting is not what made the U.S. a world power.

Our isolation from the rest of the world, along with a strong infrastructure with the ability to adapt is what made us a world power.

Since 2001, the U.S. has lost 5.3 million jobs in the manufacturing sector as a result of trade policies which are adverse to the economic interests of the American people. According to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), passage of the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement could result in the loss of 159,000 American jobs within the first seven years of its implementation. EPI further estimates that the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement will result in the loss or displacement of an additional 55,000 American jobs. Between 1994 and 2010, states previously known for their manufacturing industries like Ohio, Minnesota, Michigan and Iowa have collectively lost over 772, 000 manufacturing jobs.

In many wars both sides come to the US for weapons and money. US pr businesses work with murderous dictators to help them look better in the media. Yeah. Great country. Beyond that, exploiting foreign economies at the expense of US employment at a living wage isn't something to be proud of...

when nafta (nothing free about it) was signed into law our factories began moving south and taking our jobs with them. the only american jobs that came out of it were trucking and shipping jobs to bring the junk north into america.

What does the US export?
How many people do you know that work at a factory?
How many people do you think it takes to manufacture software?
What are the rest of us going to do to earn money to purchase consumer goods and keep our economy going? Govt. Jobs?
The debt has long ago become too big to pay back. The Politicians know this and they are on a spending spree before we have to start nuking the countries we can't pay back.
When this starts happening everywhere we are toast: http://moneyandinsurance.com/breaking-india-agrees-to-buy-iranian-oil-with-gold

America is a mess right now because the politicians don't represent the people. They represent the rich and corporations who buy them out with campaign donations.
