Why is it illegal to longboard on the street in my town?

Postby fitche » Wed Dec 14, 2011 7:56 pm

I got pulled over while longboarding and I was told that I can't longboard on the streets. Does that mean i can longboard on the sidewalk?

I don't even understand why it is an illegal activity.
I wear a helmet.
the population of our town is 2000. its not like i'm disrupting any traffic. and I do avoid and stay away from any cars.
they can't ruin the road or property.
Bikes are allowed on the road. What's the difference?
What are some reasons why they are illegal?
I'm not hurting anybody or anything (besides myself occasionally, but you can hurt yourself on a bike as well)
I don't break any traffic laws
I don't even go on the main street

is there a way that I could get around this, or get the city to change the law? Or should I just not get caught or longboard in another town

This has happened in a few cities. I believe they built up an argument stating that longboards are a form transportation and stuff. And is different from skateboards, in that they dont do tricks to mess up property. Also bring up the fact that all riders have to wear helmets. Longboarders are very misunderstood. There was a forum thread about something similar on the SilverfishLongboarding forums.
