India is a country of people with diverse attitudes and diverse intentions. That what is considered as corruption by you may be a perfectly correct thing for me to indulge in. Because my attitude is of that kind. And I have been nurtured by my family traditions in the way that I am following.
But if everybody is allowed to have their go, then this world will become a totally ungovernable place. Therefore Government has to step in and specially in places where a huge population gets affected. The banks, airlines, doctors etc. are facilities for high profile people like you and me. Still more than 80% of our population doesn't hold a bank account. The poor don't visit doctors when they are ill, because they can't afford to. Lawyers- even I keep a distance from them.
We feel the pinch when we get our share of 'injustice'. But there are 70- 80% of our population who do not even know what justice means to them!
Edit@ Mr. Daftary:
I never meant that the services which are for elites should not be cared for. Whatever the government is spending on, whether for the haves or for the have'nots, should be managed properly . My point is that there are 80% of the voices that are not being heard and are lost in the din of these media and elite propagandists who always have only their points of interests in mind. And they expect this country to march towards progress leaving the vast chunk behind.
It is not the government that can do the job. It instead are the people who are vociferous and call themselves elites. Let them take the call.
probably for the same reason that there are strict controls on taxis in the US.
taxis w/o controls have a history of taking advantage of passengers.
once the controls that were put in place back in the 1930s were removed, by GW Bush, it lead to the worldwide recession that we're still experiencing.
pretty obviously those controls should still be in place.
