Why would anybody vote for Obama?

Postby rickie » Wed Jul 25, 2012 6:48 pm

Lets take a quick look at the past few years. Chronic high levels of unemployment, an unpopular healthcare law, his latest comment on small businesses that basically says that he doesn't believe that small business owners deserve all the credit for their success. There are going to be higher taxes for pretty much everybody because of the healthcare law (19 new taxes roughly) medicare cut by 500 billion dollars, a defecit that has been more than doubled since bush left office, work out of welfare requirement, declining median incomes, a horrible economic recovery and looming fears of a double dip recession, low consumer confidence, a lot of people who fear uncomfortable about there finances, irresponsible handling of classified national security information that has been leaked.I could go on and on and on...

Why would anybody vote for Obama?

Like most Americans, I realize the problems facing America are almost entirely the result of mismanagement under conservative president George Walker Bush.

I also realize that Obama's performance over the last 3.5 years has been very strong. He stopped 4 million jobs from leaving the country, he reformed the financial system, he reformed healthcare, and under Obama federal spending has grown at the slowest rate in the last 60 years.

Yes, you heard that right. Despite Romney's claims that Obama has spent at a level that's unparalleled in presidential history, Obama's spending is actually the LOWEST of any modern president except Eisenhower.

Edit: Your numbers are wrong. Federal spending jumped 17.9% in 2009 - the last year Bush approved the budget — but fell by 1.8 percent under Obama's first budget, rose by 4.3 percent and 0.7 percent in his next two years, and is scheduled to fall again, by 1.3 percent, in fiscal 2013.

Obama did add $140 billion in stimulus spending that year, but over the four years that Obama actively shaped the budget, spending is on track to go from $3.52 trillion to $3.58 trillion. Adjusting for inflation, that amounts to an average 1.4 percent annual decrease.

Because Romney constantly lies and lies and is caught and doesn't even care. He's clearly just playing the game.. and saying "President Romney" sends chills down my spine.

The unemployment rate dropped from almost 11% to 8.2% after Obama's first budget, fiscal policies and stimulus were implemented.

The Dow has grow 62%.

Republicans caused the recession with deregulation of the financial industry, I think you would be an idiot to vote Republican again.

------

First of all, you are confusing "debt" with "deficit". Your numbers are wrong, Bush raised the debt to 11 trillion before leaving office, it is now 16 trillion under Obama.

Second of all, the amount of national debt is not necessarily indicative of the state of an economy unless the government's ability to pay back debts is undermined. The U.S. has always had a national debt since the Revolutionary War, and it was only paid off once in 1832.

I never said it hit 11%, I said almost. The unemployment rate peaked under Bush's fiscal policies in 2009. Obama's first budget, stimulus and fiscal policies were passed but not even implemented until the 2010 fiscal year. Do you not remember the financial crisis in 2008? That's what caused the recession.

Democrats and some Independents will vote for Obama (largely for party affiliation). Same reason most Republicans will vote for Romney. And Obama has done a great job despite insurmountable odds when Bush left and the do-nothing Congress.

1. The layoffs began in 2008 and are due to loss of sales in the recession. Unemployment has gone down to the magic 8% level.
2. The health care law will help millions who cannot buy insurance. It was an economic decision to save the government money and prevent hospitals and doctors from going out of business.
3. Obama stated that business owners need government assistance to be successful.
4. The taxes dont affect every person and are miniscule. Some began in 2011 and went unnoticed.
5. The plan is to save $500 billion from Medicare over 10 year period but NO benefits can be cut.
6. The deficit was already $11 trillion in 2008. The $5 trillion was due to commitments of unfunded wars plus recession spending to save the country.
7. Bush himself doubled the deficit from a surplus.
8. Incomes have not declined in middle to upper income groups. They are higher than ever.
9. We are out of the recession of 2008 and it is taking a long time to repair the damage done.

Here is a list of what Pres. Obama has done . . . . .

Recovering unused SSI benefits
Medicare fraud recovery $5 billion and prosecutions
Home foreclosure loan modification help
Expanded Alaska oil drilling
saving the auto industry jobs from going non-Union or overseas
hiring first responders and teachers
funding community medical clinics
credit card disclosure reforms
ending gay discrmination in the armed forces
improved veterans benefits, medical care
veterans employment program
improving school nutrition
Improving lower school grades in "Race to the Top"
saving the largest banks and financial institutions
tax credits for small business
tax credits, tax rebates, tax cuts for individuals
seniors IRS rebate
nuclear treaty with Russia
stronger military presence in the Pacific
a missile defense system for Israel
launching cyber attacks in Iranian nuclear facilities
capturing bin Laden and 5 of his henchmen
overthrowing the Libyan terrorist leader Quadaffi
anti-terrorism campaigns in Somalia, Afghanistan, Yemen and Pakistan
deportation of thousands of illegal criminals
reducing student loan costs
extended unemployment benefits
ended Congressional insider trading
Campaign against childhood obesity
Consumer protection recovery $3 billion

The federal debt was $6 trillion when Bush took office and $11 trillion when Bush left office and the deficit was $1.2 trillion when Obama took office. We had about 5.5% unemployment under Bush which is normal because we had not felt the effects of the economic crisis. However, the Dow Jones went from 6,500 when Bush left office to around 13,000 under Obama.
