I overstayed my Holidaymaker visa to the UK by quite awhile. I know it was stupid, but there were extenuating circumstances that I won't get into here. Anyway, even though I wasn't caught leaving, I'm sure that Border Control is well aware of my breech and would surely turn me away were I to try to go back to the UK even as a tourist. Immigration Control did, in fact, visit my former residence two days after I left.
I am now back in Canada and, due to a recent law change in the Netherlands, I am now eligible to claim Dutch nationality and am in the process of doing so. Once I have that passport, will I be able to use it to return to the UK unfettered? Will I be able to live and work there? In the event that I have had a summary conviction passed on me for the overstay, how will I be able to address it? Will it stick now that I'm an EU citizen? Any information anyone has will be much appreciated.
