Wolff's Law of Bone remodeling?

Postby tupac » Sun Jul 15, 2012 2:57 am

As Wolff's law states, bone in a healthy person or animal will adapt to the loads it is placed under. If loading on a particular bone increases, the bone will remodel itself over time to become stronger to resist that sort of loading.
However, in the case of martial arts, or any other lifting (heavy) sort of labour/sport, what would be the case of ligaments and tendons, wouldn't they tear/snap/be damaged during these heavy loads as you cannot train them to be stronger and therefore cause permanent damage?

Me and a friend are having a debate -.-

Pro tennis players develop larger racket arm bones than ball-tossing arm bones, from the impact and stresses of serving the ball. The tendons also thicken with use, muscles enlarge. You can also see this in pro baseball players who have more development of the dominant arm muscles and bones.
